Many people underestimate the power of their minds and often fail to recognize the truth which is that we eventually become what we think we are. An attachment to this principle is – as a man thinks, so he shall be. For this very reason, people decide to go into drugs – they see their lives as hopeless and they launch themselves into a labyrinth of alcoholism, cocaine addiction and hopelessness. What we see today to highlight such actions are many drug rehabs scattered across the country trying to offer their services to help the drug addict break free from the downward road to drugs.
Ever since early inventions, mankind has been esteemed as being the most intelligent of all species, but with the rise of substance abuse rocking the world to pieces one really has to wonder if we have taken a look at our true mental potential. Why are there so many families that have been torn apart because of alcoholism and why is there always an increase in drug trafficking if we are called the most intelligent of species?
To answer the questions above it would be necessary to see each individual as separate beings – each with different aims and aspirations but all of whom share three things in common: mind, body and spirit. All three form the essence of living because they work together to provide each one with balance. A troubled mind cannot uplift a broken spirit nor can it contribute to a healthy body. When a drug addict decides to join a drug rehab to find a solution for alcoholism he/she knows that he/she is not balanced in body, spirit and especially the mind.
The mind is where the cure will begin in any drug rehab. Once negative thoughts of hopelessness and low self-esteem are replaced with positive thinking the person in question will then feel a certain push forward that gives their spirit and body new hope. If this is not achieved then the whole concept of rehabilitation is defeated and there will be no real change in the drug addict’s outlook on life.
Life should be embraced with hope and dreams, because both are the fuel that gives it meaning. When a drug addict is able to take a look around himself or herself and believes with his/her entire heart that he/she deserves to have a new life, then it is at that moment where the addict will have the urge to fight for it. In other words, it is at that point that the mission of a drug rehab is partially accomplished – what happens next will depend on the support that he or she receives to continue making the steps towards freedom.
How then can a drug addict or any human being recondition his or her mind?
Believe in Self – Maybe life never once handed you a golden spoon or maybe chances are you are picking up the pieces of your own life. You will need to believe in yourself to be convinced that, even though today is really not all blue skies, tomorrow or the day after that you will have new hope.
Love of Self – Many people do not love themselves and as such set very low standards for themselves. When you love yourself you get the chance to know who you are better than anyone else in this world.
