The latter items tend to focus upon the community in terms of what is wrong in the world today. I don’t think my mum feels differently from the majority of those of her generation (or younger). You hear phrases such as "what is the world coming to?" or "your father always said that this would happen". These articles centre around how the National Health Service in the UK just cannot survive for much longer or how a single mum who has five children costs the British tax payer £7,000 every month. You get the picture.

I have to admit that I don’t like to read these articles. I have this feeling that I don’t want to know and this is because I feel helpless. What can I do to make it any better? I also have a sense that the more thought energy you put into how "bad" things are, the worse they will become. I prefer to distract myself and try to focus on things that I can help with, and try to emit thought energy which has a "feel good" factor.

I know the "system" in the UK could be said to encourage a lot of people to think that they are entitled to something for nothing. There are many lessons taught upon "how to play the system". There are people who claim single person benefits when they are not single, or assistance for children who are not living with them, or who try to "kid" the system into providing them with a council house which they should not really be entitled to. But, I also have a firm belief that what goes around comes around.

If you take from someone else, you will be taken from too. If you claim benefits which you do not really need and in effect take from others who are more in need than you, then a similar thing will happen to you at some time in the future. It might not happen next week or even next year, but sometime those "misdeeds" will come home to roost. I do believe in Karma and this perhaps is why I do attempt to ignore those articles which get brought to my attention on a weekly basis.

My mum gets completely infuriated by them. How does this help? All I see is her getting upset and anxious. To me that is adding more negative energy to something unnecessarily. I refuse (on the majority of occasions) to be drawn in to this bad feeling. I, whether rightly or wrongly, believe that my energy is better spent on "trusting in karma" and focusing upon things which feel good and positive in life.

Every thought you have has energy. If you want the world to be a better place, then you need to focus upon thoughts which leave you with a "feel good" sensation and not upon ones which leave you feeling upset.

Wellness implies a balance in life that includes peace, stability, and personal growth, even when faced with difficulty and painful circumstances. Wellness gives the ability to bounce back from setbacks and disappointments. It comes from building patterns that lead to endurance, strength, and optimal performance. But we are not machines. There is more to life than that.

Towards Greater Satisfaction

Happiness is a major factor in wellness. A woman who despises herself for the chocolate cake she ate last night is not enjoying wellness, no matter if she is a size six and has an abdomen so firm you could bounce a quarter off it.

Sometimes Christians have an internal belief system that views happiness as a frivolous or carnal pursuit. And yet, Christian parents delight in their children’s happiness. Jesus stated He came to give us abundant life, which certainly includes happiness. Even the Amplified Bible translates the word "blessed" as "happy, prosperous, to be envied". Blessing is a good thing!

In all kinds of coaching (wellness, discipleship, success and others), the goal is greater personal satisfaction. When people are pursuing happiness, they are motivated to change the parts of their lives that are making them unhappy. Physical health and fitness may be the primary reason to contact a coach, but the coach is going to listen for other areas of discontent. Once progress has been made with physical care, the client will be energized and encouraged, and may be willing to address wellness in spiritual or career or life-enriching matters.

Happiness Defined

As a matter of discovery, it is important that happiness is defined by the client. What thrills and motivates one person may leave another person completely bored. A few simple questions will help paint a visual picture of a satisfying life.

"What does happiness mean to you?"

"What would give you greater pleasure in this situation?"

"What would give you a reason to jump out of bed in the morning in anticipation of the day?"

"What does spiritual wellness look like?" "Or financial wellness, or social wellness?"

A coach, by bringing hope, asking questions, and inspiring greatness, will help you see the bigger picture- that of wellness in every aspect of your life.

John can feel the slow-boiling emotion of envy, jealousy and the creeping frustration about life being unfair to him and being so kind to his neighbor and his family members. They have everything they ever want out of life and he has nothing. He got to a point whereby he is fed-up about not being able to find a perfect life like the one that his neighbor has. Life gave him a terrible hand.

John does not realize that he is probably never going to find the perfect life. Not because he can’t achieve it with that state of mind, but because there is no perfect life.

What John sees of the family is just the outside picture. He created the reality in his mind, that his neighbor’s life is perfect and his is not. Whereas, in the real reality, his neighbor is facing potential bankruptcy and they might have to move to a flat soon. His wife can’t seem to find a job because she’s been a housewife ever since their firstborn was born. The neighbor’s firstborn also has a problem about not facing up to bullies in school.

That’s the real reality – that everyone has problems. But what John chooses to see is this one-sided reality that makes his neighbor’s life the perfect life, and his the complete opposite.

John does not see that his mother is worried sick about him and is about to board a flight out to see him and take care of him. He does not see that his boss at work is doing all that he can to help John keep his job. He does not see the abundance of love that he is getting from HIS own kids and his ex-wife. He wallows because his focus is in not having what his neighbor has. His neighbor’s perfect little life.

He is in search of something that is not real, hence, he can never find the perfect life. Not when he is not acknowledging his own perfect life. The one that he is now entitled to live but chose to ignore.

Choose to see the good in everything that you have right in front of you today.

Almost everyone has heard the saying, "you can’t buy happiness." So how do we find something which can’t be purchased or won? The term finding happiness seems somewhat like a paradox. It’s hard to find something if you never even realized you’ve lost it. True lasting happiness comes from within our hearts and souls and is a by-product of a life lived which is inline with our morals and values.

Many times in life we may find that we’re compromising our highest values and morals, the result is often unhappiness. Moreover, even if we’re living true to ourselves, we may still find that we’re unhappy. In such cases, maybe we should look at what sources we’re depending on for our happiness.

Most people, me included, sometimes depend too much on external forces for happiness. This can cause a never ending battle of constantly trying to maintain something which we never really had in the first place. True, long-lasting happiness, should not be contingent on external sources. Having a dependence on people or things is bound to fail; people leave and things can be lost or destroyed.

The key to real happiness, is finding it inside our heart and soul. Once we learn how to do this, we’ll no longer have a need to find happiness, for happiness will find us. When you think about it, one of the reasons inner peace and serenity is such a wonderful thing, is because it’s so hard to find. Just like anything else in life, nothing great or worth doing is ever easy. If that was the case, we’d be purchasing happiness in HD! Although many of us think we can buy happiness, why else would be continue to try?

So if happiness cannot be found, how do we get it? It starts with finding that sought after inner peace and serenity. There is no dollar sign on a peace of mind, and finding peace within ourselves is the beginning towards happiness. The best part about obtaining inner-peace is the resulting happiness is not contingent on external sources. Moreover, it can never be stolen nor dependent on anyone or anything. The answer to the paradox is stop trying to find happiness; learn how to love and accept yourself and happiness will find you.

Whether you’re unhappy in your life the way it is, or you’re searching for a new level of inner peace, finding happiness which is not contingent on outside sources is a good place to start. Achieving happiness within is one way of ensuring happiness will find you.
